YOUTH SOLOIST COMPETITION

For the past 7 seasons, Rose Tree Pops has conducted a youth soloist competion. The soloist is selected from area schools. The selected soloist performs their solo during the Orchestra's Spring Concert. Last season's soloist was the talented young flutist, Jessica Fennelly, who performed one movement of the Mozart G Major Flute Concerto.

Students must reside in Delaware County and be in grades 9 to 12. Download the attached information packet and form for submission to the Auditions Committee. Address is included on form.

About Jessica, Our 2009-2010 Season Soloist:

Jessica Fennelly is an 11th grade Honor student(now 12th grade) at Upper Darby High School. She participates in her school's orchestra and wind ensemble and is a member and flute section leader of the Philadelphia Sinfonia Youth Orchestra. Jessica is a student of Rebecca Simon and has been playing flute/piccolo for five years. She has won multiple music awards and has had the opportunity to expand her repertoire as a former member of Delaware Valley Young Musician's Orchestra, County Band, District and Regional Bands, and as a participant in the Kimmel Center Jazz and Chamber Youth Music camps for two consecutive summers.

Jessica studied with Michel Debost and Kathleen Chastain during the Summer of 2008 at the Oberlin Conservatory Flute Institute. This past summer she was selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts and attended the Skidmore Flute Institute. Last winter, Jessica placed third in the Rose Tree Pops Concerto Competition. Jessica also plays electric guitar for the Jazz Ensemble at Upper Darby High School and will be a member of the concert choir next year.
